Autumn memorial service

The Jodo sect's widely held autumn Nembutsu service is titled "Jūya Hōyō" (Ten Nights Service). Its origin lies in the *Muryōju-kyō* (Sutra of Immeasurable Life), where the continuous, separate recitation of the Nembutsu for ten days and ten nights is a way of expressing gratitude for the great compassion of Amida Buddha. At Jōgon-in Temple, four services are held over four days, divided into daytime and nighttime sessions. A highlight of the service is the performance of "Kachidoki Nembutsu," which originates from the "victory cry" that arose after the Buddhist debate at Jōgon-in Temple in 1579, known as the "Azuchi Debate," where Oda Nobunaga ruled in favor of the Jodo sect. *Due to COVID-19 prevention measures, the schedule will be shortened this year.
